Service

  • Service.  We are dedicated to service.  In 1977, Pi Kappa Phi was the first – and remains the only – national fraternity to create its own philanthropic organization, Push America.  Push America is an outreach program to raise money and awareness for those with disabilities.  In the past 2 years, the Omega chapter has built three wheelchair ramps for local residents in a partnership with Push America.  The Pi Kapp 100 is a 100km bike ride that the members of the Omega chapter participate in to raise money for Push America.  Pi Kappa Phi holds a national cross-country bike ride called the Journey of Hope every summer to raise awareness and money for people with disabilities.  The Omega Chapter proudly has two members participating in the ride this summer.  In 2011, we raised $13,650 for Push America. The Omega Chapter  of Pi Kappa Phi is 2nd all time for fundraising.

Push America was founded by members of Pi Kappa Phi in 1977 and remains the exclusive service learning project of the Fraternity, with the purpose of instilling lifelong service in our members and serving people with disabilities.

o The chapter continued its partnership with two special education classes at Lafayette Jefferson High School for the third consecutive year.  Every school day, at least two chapter members volunteer two hours of their time in the classroom in a variety of events (including bowling, games, math puzzles, reading, cooking, and other basic life skills).  This has been an extremely successful opportunity for the chapter to learn more about people with disabilities and give back to them through Push America’s Circle of Giving.

o   There are approximately 20 students in each of the special needs classes at Lafayette Jefferson.

o   34 members and associates participated in the partnership throughout the academic year, volunteering more than 100 man hours
